Since January, Stand Up America’s members have sent nearly 100,000 emails in support of Supreme Court reform.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Moyle v. United States, a case that will decide if Idaho’s extreme abortion ban remains in place. The outcome of this case could further erode abortion access and endanger the lives of millions of pregnant Americans.

Stand Up America’s Managing Director of Policy and Political Affairs, Brett Edkins, issued the following statement:

“Life-saving care is non-negotiable. Every American should have the certainty they’ll receive life-saving medical care in an emergency—without being caught in the middle of a partisan attack on their reproductive freedom and safety.

“Idaho’s abortion ban is a direct consequence of the Court’s radical decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and allow partisan state legislatures to determine Americans’ access to abortion care. If the Supreme Court once again sides with anti-abortion extremists, it will be further proof that this Court is radically out of touch with the American people and must be reformed.”

Idaho’s abortion ban violates the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), a federal law that requires hospitals to provide life-saving care to patients experiencing a medical emergency, including pregnant patients. Idaho’s ban has already caused negative consequences for pregnant residents in the state. Many doctors are leaving the state because they’re afraid of being charged with a crime simply for providing abortion care for patients who need it.
