Our Fights
-
Defending the Freedom to Vote
The Problem
MAGA extremists are trying to overturn elections and create barriers to the ballot box, particularly for young Americans and voters of color.
The Solution
We need to mobilize at the local, state, and federal levels to pass voting rights legislation and protect the freedom to vote for millions of Americans.
-
The Supreme Court Is Out Of Control
The Problem
Ethics scandals and attacks on our fundamental freedoms have eroded the American people’s trust in the Supreme Court. It’s time for Congress to fix the Court.
The Solution
Congress has the power to restore trust in our highest Court by implementing a code of ethics, enacting term limits, and adding justices to the bench.
-
Reducing the Power of Wealthy Donors
The Problem
Our broken campaign finance system prioritizes the ultra-rich over everyday Americans, making it extremely difficult to pass progressive legislation.
The Solution
To build a truly representative democracy, we need to enact public financing for our elections at the local, state, and federal levels and reduce the power of wealthy donors.
-
Electing Democracy Champions
The Problem
MAGA extremists are trying to take control of local, state, and federal offices to restrict our freedoms, cast doubt on our elections, and govern on behalf of the wealthiest individuals and corporations.
The Solution
To build a truly representative democracy and make lasting progress on countless issues, we must elect democracy champions and defeat MAGA extremists at the local, state, and federal levels.
-
Banning Congress from Trading Stocks
The Problem
Members of Congress have access to sensitive information about our economy and national security. But right now, existing ethics laws don’t go far enough to prevent them from playing the stock market with that information.
The Solution
We need legislation that will ban members from buying and selling individual stocks and stop this unethical behavior once and for all.
-
Fixing the Electoral College with National Popular Vote
The Problem
Since 2000, two out of four U.S. presidents received fewer votes than their opponents but still won the White House. Why? Because the Electoral College gives the presidency to the candidate who wins the most electoral votes, not the candidate who receives the most votes overall.
The Solution
Every American deserves an equal voice and equal say in our democracy, no matter where they live. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact would ensure the candidate who wins the most votes nationwide wins the presidency.
-
Restoring Voting Rights for Every American
The Problem
Nearly 5 million Americans, disproportionately people of color, are currently shut out of democracy due to felony convictions. Felony disenfranchisement laws are Jim Crow relics that have no place in our democracy.
The Solution
Across the country, there’s grassroots momentum building to restore voting rights to people with felony convictions. Until everyone has a vote, our democracy will not be truly representative. We’re working to make universal voting rights a reality—and we need you with us.
-
Making D.C. The 51st State
The Problem
With 700,000 residents, Washington D.C.’s population is comparable to Alaska and North Dakota, states that both have 2 senators and a voting member in the House of Representatives. But as a district, D.C.’s predominantly Black population has no voting representation in Congress.
The Solution
Our government should represent its people. All of its people. The Washington, D.C. Admission Act admits the district as the 51st state.
-
Preventing Abuse of Presidential Power
The Problem
Trump used our tax dollars to prop up his businesses and re-election bid, while inviting foreign interference in our elections. Unless we take action now, future administrations could get away with similar abuses of power—or worse.
The Solution
The Protecting Our Democracy Act would ensure that no president is above the law by prohibiting self pardons, preventing presidents from profiting from office, and ensuring presidents can be prosecuted for wrongdoing.
-
Ending the Filibuster
The Problem
For decades, the filibuster has been used to water down, delay, and defeat landmark civil rights legislation, including voting rights. Today, the GOP is using it to grind progress to a halt.
The Solution
If we want our government to respond to the will of the people, we must eliminate the filibuster.
