WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the Supreme Court prepares to hear oral arguments in Trump v. United States, Stand Up America is launching a new mini-site to rally public support for the Supreme Court Tenure Establishment and Retirement Modernization (TERM) Act, which would establish 18-year term limits for Supreme Court justices.

The microsite highlights the urgent need to enact term limits for Supreme Court justices and prevent justices from wielding too much power for two long. It features key pop culture moments—Mariah Carey’s chart topper “We Belong Together” and the early-aughts ubiquity of low-rise jeans among them—that have taken place during the justices’ lifetime tenures.

“Let’s face it: the Court’s far-right agenda and alarming decisions, like their continued attacks on abortion access, have left most of America shaking our heads. That’s why we’re giving the Supreme Court a reality check and pushing for 18-year term limits for justices,” said Maggie Moore, Senior Director of Digital Content. “A single justice who stays on the Court for decades can shape our laws for a generation. No one should have that much power for life. Even Mariah Carey didn’t stay on top of the charts forever.”

Stand Up America’s term limits microsite also provides tools for individuals to take action, including by searching if their representatives are cosponsors of the TERM Act and contacting their members of Congress. By empowering Americans to engage with their elected representatives, Stand Up America aims to amplify the voices calling for meaningful Supreme Court reform.
