During Alito’s 18-year tenure on SCOTUS, he has consistently sided with corporations and political megadonors at the expense of working Americans

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Today, Stand Up America launched a mobile billboard in Washington D.C. and a six-figure national digital advertising campaign to mark the 18th anniversary of Justice Samuel Alito’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.

The effort aims to shed light on the need for Supreme Court term limits, highlighting that no one deserves power for life. Since September, Stand Up America members have sent over 90,000 constituent emails to Congress in support of legislation that would create 18-year term limits for Supreme Court justices.

Alito’s 18-year tenure on the Supreme Court has been defined by a consistent alignment with the interests of elite and wealthy corporations, contempt for judicial ethics, and a track record of undermining our fundamental freedoms. His decisions in landmark cases like Citizens United v. FEC, Shelby County v. Holder, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, and New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen have severely eroded everyday Americans’ fundamental freedoms.

Stand Up America’s Executive Director, Christina Harvey, issued the following statement on Justice Alito’s time on the Court:

“In the 18 years since Justice Alito was confirmed to the Court, he’s used his position to advance a far-right agenda, from opening the floodgates for unlimited billionaire spending in our elections to overturning decades of precedent protecting the right to abortion care. Unapologetically siding with right-wing megadonors and corporations, Alito has chipped away at the bedrock of our democracy and our fundamental freedoms.

“No one deserves power for life, and that is why Stand Up America is calling for Supreme Court term limits on the 18th anniversary of Justice Alito’s confirmation. 49 out of 50 states have either term limits, elections, or age limits for their highest courts. It’s time for Congress to follow suit by creating term limits for the U.S. Supreme Court.”
