Republicans claim the bill will fight voter fraud, but right-wing Heritage Foundation’s “Election Fraud Cases” database lists zero instances of voter fraud in the District of Columbia

WASHINGTON D.C. — Stand Up America Executive Director Christina Harvey issued the following statement after House Republicans released the American Confidence in Elections (ACE) Act yesterday:

“The ACE Act is a clear threat to our democracy. This anti-voter, pro-corporate legislation is meant to boost wealthy and corporate interests and block progress on the critical issues that matter to our communities.

In addition to further amplifying the voices of the wealthy in our elections, this bill radically violates D.C home rule, establishing federal control of D.C. elections, ending same day voter registration, and making it harder to vote by mail in D.C, all under the guise of election integrity. All despite the fact that even the right-wing Heritage Foundation reports zero cases of voter fraud in D.C. .

“House Republicans are proving once again that they don’t care about Americans’ right to vote. With a critical election coming up next year, it’s more important than ever to strengthen our democracy and bring more voters into the fold, not exclude them.

“If House Republicans really cared about election integrity, they wouldn’t have zeroed out election security funding in their Appropriations bill last month. Their hypocrisy is on full display.”
