In response to today’s failed vote on Senate Republicans’ COVID-19 relief package, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

“Today, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans put forward a bill that did nothing to ensure our elections are safe, secure, and accessible this year. The bill failed because it failed to meet the needs of the American people and protect our democracy—especially in the middle of a pandemic that has already killed nearly 200,000 people.

“It’s outrageous that McConnell’s bill contained not one penny to help states conduct safe elections during a global pandemic after House Democrats passed $3.6 billion. McConnell has blocked the HEROES Act from coming to a vote for 118 days, prioritizing the confirmation of Trump’s right-wing judges and recessing the Senate for weeks.

“If McConnell gave a damn about the American people and our democracy, he would stop the political games and return to serious negotiations immediately.”
