SUPREME COURT FACES ETHICAL CATASTROPHE AFTER ALITO CORRUPTION REVELATIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Brett Edkins, Managing Director of Policy and Political Affairs for Stand Up America, issued the following statement after a ProPublica investigation revealed Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito accepted and failed to disclose luxury trips gifted to him by wealthy GOP donors: 

“The Supreme Court is mired in an ethical catastrophe that threatens its fundamental credibility. Once again, a conservative Supreme Court justice has been discovered to have accepted luxury travel and gifts from an ultrarich GOP donor with business before the Court. 

“Justice Alito hid this luxury travel from the public, in apparent violation of federal law. His blatant disregard for the ethical requirements of sitting on the Supreme Court calls into question his ability to ‘faithfully and impartially’ administer justice and his fitness to remain on the bench. Alito’s shameless and self-serving justification for accepting and concealing gifts from political megadonors is proof that we can’t rely on the Court to police itself. 

“Our highest court must be held to a higher ethical standard. Congress should show some courage by investigating Supreme Court corruption and passing a binding code of ethics.”
