This cycle, Stand Up America’s members took hundreds of thousands of actions to elect Democracy Defenders in the Silver State
CARSON CITY — Today, Stand Up America celebrated the election of Cisco Aguilar as Nevada Secretary of State. Aguilar defeated MAGA Republican Jim Marchant, ensuring Nevada’s elections remain free and fair and Nevadans choose their leaders, not the other way around.
This cycle, Stand Up America’s members —including our 5,000+ members in Nevada—sent nearly 50,000 handwritten letters and more than 330,000 peer-to-peer texts educating Nevada voters about the stakes in the Secretary of State race. They also submitted more than 100 letters to the editor in support of Cisco Aguilar and other democracy defenders.
Stand Up America’s Executive Director, Christina Harvey, issued the following statement on today’s victory:
“Nevadans across the political spectrum came together to elect a Secretary of State who will protect their fundamental freedoms and the will of the people. Cisco Aguilar has dedicated his career to improving the lives of Nevadans. He’s committed to continuing that work by defending the freedom to vote, removing barriers to voter participation, and making the electoral process more transparent as Nevada’s Secretary of State.
“We’re proud of the work that Stand Up America’s community did to elect democracy champions in Nevada. Our members sent hundreds of thousands of handwritten letters and texts to voters and wrote to their local newspapers to urge their friends and neighbors to elect Cisco Aguilar.
“We look forward to working with the Secretary of State-elect to further strengthen fair and free elections and the freedom to vote in Nevada.”
Stand Up America mobilized its 2 million members across the country and made a seven-figure investment in the 2022 midterm elections to build a firewall for democracy in 2024 and beyond.
