Coalition Continues To Expand After Trump Refuses To Agree To A Peaceful Transition of Power

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, in response to Donald Trump once again refusing to say whether he’d accept the results and respect the peaceful transition of power, Indivisible and Stand Up America are announcing that more than 100 advocacy groups and grassroots organizations have joined the Protect the Results coalition.

With the election quickly approaching and Donald Trump escalating his attacks on our democracy, the network continues to build the infrastructure to mobilize millions of Americans should Trump refuse to concede after losing or claim victory before all the votes are counted. The Protect the Results coalition now includes a diverse network of partners from progressive and conservative advocacy organizations, good government groups, faith groups, labor unions, and the largest grassroots networks in the country (list below).

“Trump is a loser trying to cheat his way to win. And with every tweet and misleading statement he makes, he shows us that the only play in his playbook is to further sow doubt and chaos,” said Sarah Dohl, Co-Founder and Chief Communications Officer of Indivisible. “We’re onto him, and we’re turning out in record numbers to show that everyone counts, to ensure everyone’s vote is counted, and to swear in a government of, by, and for the people. If Trump tries to subvert the will of the people and refuses to accept the legitimate results of the election, patriotic Americans everywhere—from conservative organizations to faith groups to labor unions—will work like hell to make sure every vote is counted and mobilize if they are not. If Trump tries to steal his way to victory, we’ll be ready to ensure that voters have the last word.”

“Donald Trump is telegraphing that he won’t accept the results of the election if he loses and casting doubt on the election process in order to suppress the vote,” said Christina Harvey, Managing Director of Stand Up America. “This sentiment represents an existential threat to our democracy and is the exact reason we are mobilizing to vote him out of office and peacefully take to the streets to defend the valid results of this election if necessary.”

Last night and again this afternoon, Trump refused to agree to a peaceful transition of power at a White House news conference and said: “There won’t be a transfer, frankly. There will be a continuation.” These latest comments follow a deeply troubling pattern of Trump undermining the election, from encouraging supporters in North Carolina to illegally vote twice to falsely claiming that mail-in voting leads to rampant voter fraud, and even making disturbing comments about staying in office past 2024.
