Fight for Fair Maps in Ohio

Ohio has some of the most gerrymandered district maps in the nation. For decades, politicians have been manipulating voter maps and the redistricting process to guarantee their own reelection, taking away their incentive to respond to Ohioans’ needs and giving themselves the power to choose their voters instead of the other way around.

This November, you have a chance to put an end to their incumbency protection scheme.

The Citizens Not Politicians Amendment would put an end to partisan gerrymandering and empower Ohio voters to draw fair voting districts. It would create a transparent process where citizens are involved in redistricting to ensure fair representation that reflects Ohio’s diverse communities.

Your friends, neighbors, and fellow Ohioans would be the ones in charge of the maps—not the politicians looking to get elected.

If implemented, the Citizens Not Politicians Amendment would:

  • Create a 15-member Ohio Citizens Redistricting Commission made up of Democratic, Republican, and Independent citizens who broadly represent the different geographic areas and demographics of the state.
  • Ban current or former politicians, political party officials, and lobbyists from sitting on the Commission.
  • Require fair and impartial districts by making it unconstitutional to draw voting districts that discriminate against or favor any political party or individual politician.
  • Require the commission to operate under an open and independent process.

It’s time to restore the power to “we, the people” and ensure a transparent, citizen-led process that holds politicians accountable to the voters.

Seven states now have independent citizen commissions: Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Michigan, Montana, and Washington. Let’s add Ohio to that list.
