WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, President Donald Trump will give his first joint address to Congress before Republican lawmakers who refuse to do their duty and stand up to him. Since his inauguration, Trump has fired thousands of federal workers, shuttered federal agencies established by law, and trampled on congressional power with zero resistance from his party.

Stand Up America’s Executive Director, Christina Harvey, released the following statement ahead of the address:

“From Day One of his presidency, President Trump has prioritized billionaires over working Americans. From firing veterans and cutting essential services to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy to allowing an unelected billionaire to star in his own version of The Apprentice in our federal government, he’s made it clear who he’s here to serve.

“Checks and balances are fundamental to our democracy, so it is a bitter irony that tonight President Trump will address a neutered Republican majority in Congress that has refused to check him, even when their own constituents are harmed. They’ve quietly stood by as Trump consolidates control and delegates critical government functions to unelected billionaire Elon Musk.”
