WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, the Senate confirmed Pam Bondi for U.S. Attorney General. Bondi’s record as Florida Attorney General shows a troubling pattern of protecting wealthy political donors while abandoning the people who elected her.

Stand Up America’s Executive Director, Christina Harvey, released the following statement on the vote:

“Pam Bondi’s confirmation is just another example of what we’ve seen from the Trump White House and the Republican-controlled Congress over the last two weeks: a government of, by, and for wealthy special interests. Bondi was a registered lobbyist for corporate America. She built her career by putting powerful donors and corporations ahead of the people she was elected to serve as Florida Attorney General. That isn’t leadership; it’s corruption.

“I shudder to think what Pam Bondi’s response will be when Elon Musk and his band of lost boys wander into the Department of Justice and demand access to computer systems where sensitive information about ongoing criminal investigations is stored.

“Bondi’s record of caving to big donors and corporate interests is exactly the opposite of what we need right now in an Attorney General. By confirming Bondi, Republican senators now own her record and everything she does–or fails to do–as Attorney General.”

On the heels of the 2010 foreclosure crisis, Pam Bondi sided with banks over American homeowners. Bondi, who became Florida’s attorney general in 2011, fired two attorneys who uncovered banks and loan servicers were using false documents to foreclose on homeowners. That was after Bondi accepted thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from one of those loan servicers and its affiliates. Bondi sidelined the lawyers’ efforts, removed them from the case, and eventually fired them without explanation. That was after Bondi accepted thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from one of those loan servicers and its affiliates.

In 2013, Pam Bondi was at the center of a “pay-to-play” scandal after soliciting and receiving a $25,000 campaign contribution from Donald Trump while her office was considering whether to join a New York investigation into alleged fraud at Trump University. The timing of Bondi’s request for the donation raised serious ethical concerns, as her office ultimately chose not to pursue action against Trump, a decision that sparked accusations of bribery.

In the same year, as Florida’s attorney general, Pam Bondi faced backlash for prioritizing her political ambitions over her duties when she requested a delay in the execution of a convicted murderer because it conflicted with one of her campaign fundraisers. After leaving the Attorney General’s office, Bondi became a registered lobbyist for corporate giants like Amazon and Uber—companies facing significant criticism for exploiting workersprice gouging, and allegations of illegally trying to stifle competition to keep prices high and increase their profits.
