Governor Katie Hobbs should veto this legislation immediately
PHOENIX — Yesterday,Arizona lawmakers passed legislation to restrict mail-in and early voting—two widely used and trusted methods of casting a ballot in the state. In 2024, a staggering 85% of voters cast their ballots early or by mail. Only 14% of Arizona voters voted in-person on Election Day. The bill would also ban Election Day ballot drop-offs, even though more than 260,000 Arizona voters dropped off their ballot on Election Day in 2024.
Stand Up America’s Managing Director of Policy & Political Affairs, Brett Edkins, released the following statement after the vote:
“SB 1011 isn’t about improving elections–it’s about silencing voters. Republican lawmakers in Arizona know they can’t win on their ideas, so they’re trying to manipulate the rules instead. Not everyone can wait in line at a polling location for hours on Election Day. Eliminating drop off mail voting on Election Day would disproportionately harm working parents, rural and tribal communities, seniors, people with disabilities or illnesses, and those facing other barriers to voting.
“Make no mistake: This is part of a coordinated national attack on our freedom to vote. Governor Katie Hobbs should veto this legislation immediately.”
Arizona legislators have tried to limit voting access before, and Stand Up America’s members in Arizona fought back, driving over 25,000 emails and calls to legislators.
