WASHINGTON— Four years ago today, Donald Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Since joining the Court, Justice Coney Barrett has been a key vote attacking our fundamental freedoms. From voting to overturn Roe v. Wade, to undermining commonsense gun safety legislation and environmental protections, Coney Barrett has consistently aligned herself with the most extreme elements of the Court. The anniversary of her nomination is a stark reminder of what’s at stake for the Supreme Court this November.

Stand Up America’s Executive Director, Christina Harvey, issued the following statement on the anniversary:

“Since replacing RBG, Justice Amy Coney Barrett has decimated Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s legacy and solidified MAGA control of the Supreme Court. Whereas Ruth Bader Ginsburg protected the right to choose, Barrett voted to overturn Roe. Where Ginsburg consistently protected women’s rights, voting rights, and our fundamental freedoms, Barrett has attacked those freedoms and rights at every opportunity.

“The next president could choose up to four new Supreme Court justices. If Donald Trump is president again, he’ll nominate more justices like Amy Coney Barrett. We’re already living with the horrifying consequences of three Trump justices. We cannot allow Trump to put more MAGA justices on the Court for life, justices who will make decisions about abortion access, voting rights, gun safety, and more.

“That’s why Stand Up America and our nearly 2 million members across the country are mobilizing to protect our rights and freedoms by electing Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States.”

Since 2021, Stand Up America has been a leading group advocating for Supreme Court reform. Stand Up America conducted a national poll earlier this year, which found that three in four voters (74%) say that the selection and confirmation of Supreme Court justices will be an important consideration for them in voting for both president and U.S. senator in 2024. In June, Stand Up America launched a Supreme Court Voter campaign, a seven-figure digital campaign aimed at educating and mobilizing voters around the stakes of the Supreme Court for this election.
