SUPREME COURT BETRAYED VOTERS BY RUNNING OUT THE CLOCK ON TRUMP ACCOUNTABILITY

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Supreme Court vacated the lower courts’ decision that Presidents are not immune from criminal prosecution, ruling that Presidents are entitled to presumptive immunity from prosecution for all official acts, and sent Trump v. U.S. back to a lower court. This move all but ensures the American people will not know if Trump has been found guilty of federal crimes before casting their ballots.

Stand Up America’s Founder & President, Sean Eldridge, issued the following statement:

“The right-wing Supreme Court majority is once again helping Donald Trump evade accountability for his attempts to overturn the will of the people. Today’s ruling not only returns the case to a lower court and delays his federal trials until after the election, but it seeks to put the president above the law in all of their official acts.

“Presidents are not kings, and the American people deserve a Supreme Court that does not hesitate to declare that no one is above the law, including a former president. The responsibility now falls on us, the American people, to defend our democracy and our fundamental freedoms at the ballot box by defeating Trump and electing members of Congress who will reform this broken Court.”

Last week, on the second anniversary of the controversial Dobbs v. Jackson decision, Stand Up America launched a seven-figure Supreme Court Voter campaign aimed at educating and mobilizing voters on the impact the next president will have on the future of the U.S. Supreme Court. With four of the nine current justices set to be in their 70s by 2025, the next president may have the opportunity to appoint their replacements, potentially reshaping the Court for generations to come.
