ADVOCACY GROUPS APPLAUD BIDEN-HARRIS ADMINISTRATION FOR ENDORSING SUPREME COURT REFORM

WASHINGTON — Today, a coalition of national advocacy organizations applauded the Biden-Harris Administration for endorsing Supreme Court reform, including term limits for Supreme Court justices.

“We thank President Biden and Vice President Harris for championing essential reforms to address the crisis on our nation’s highest court, including term limits and a binding code of ethics. The White House’s endorsement is a crucial first step toward holding this MAGA Court in check and restoring Americans’ trust in the judiciary. 

“The right-wing majority on the Supreme Court is mired in numerous ethical scandals. The MAGA justices have overturned longstanding precedents like Roe v. Wade, chipped away at the federal government’s ability to protect our health and safety, and steadily undermined our democracy.

“These are common sense reforms. The Supreme Court should be the gold standard of judicial ethics, yet the justices are the only federal judges not bound by a code of ethics. 49 of 50 states already have term limits, elections, or mandatory retirement ages for top judges. The Supreme Court should not be the exception.

“It’s time for Congress to follow the White House’s lead and support Supreme Court term limits for current and future justices and a binding code of ethics — because no one should have unchecked power for life.”
