WASHINGTON — Stand Up America’s Managing Director for Policy and Political Affairs, Brett Edkins, issued the following statement after the White House released its FY2024 budget, which included $1.625 billion in election funding in FY2024 and $5 billion over the next decade:

“As President Biden said in the State of the Union, ‘Over the last few years, our democracy has been threatened and attacked.’ The President’s budget makes vital and overdue investments to protect the backbone of our democracy: our elections. From covering the cost of paper ballots to buying reliable voting machines and other equipment, this budget addresses the demands of dedicated local officials and election workers, who continue to face harassment and threats of political violence while working on the front lines of our democracy.

“Last year, Congress fell short of providing adequate federal funding to support election infrastructure and security. Congress should move decisively this year to meet the White House’s FY 2024 budget request. Our democracy is not out of the woods, and Congress must take meaningful action to safeguard free and fair elections ahead of 2024.”
