MADISON — Stand Up America Executive Director Christina Harvey issued the following statement after Judges Janet Protasiewicz and Daniel Kelly advanced past the Wisconsin Supreme Court primary. The candidate who wins April’s general election will serve for 10 years, during which time the Wisconsin Supreme Court is expected to hear cases ranging from whether to uphold its near-total abortion ban to challenges to gerrymandered district lines and the freedom to vote.

“Tonight, Wisconsinites voted to send progressive Judge Janet Protasiewicz on to the general election for the Wisconsin State Supreme Court, bringing Wisconsin one step closer to shifting the balance of power on the court and  protecting their fundamental freedoms from extremist judges like Daniel Kelly. Judge Protasiewicz is the only choice for voters who want to ensure that our freedoms and our democracy are protected.

“From his ties to anti-abortion groups to his opposition to marriage equality, Judge Kelly’s views are far out of the mainstream and don’t reflect Wisconsin values. Electing Kelly is too great a risk for Wisconsin and—in such a close swing state—the country.

“That’s why Stand Up America’s members will be texting and writing letters to Wisconsin voters to make sure they know what’s at stake, and will do everything in their power to elect Judge Janet Protasiewicz in April.”
