STAND UP AMERICA CELEBRATES FONTES’ VICTORY IN ARIZONA SECRETARY OF STATE RACE AND DEFEAT OF ELECTION DENIER FINCHEM

This cycle, Stand Up America’s members took hundreds of thousands of actions to elect Democracy Defenders in Arizona, defeat anti-voter ballot measure

PHOENIX — Today, Stand Up America celebrated the election of Adrian Fontes as Arizona Secretary of State. Fontes defeated insurrectionist MAGA candidate Mark Finchem, helping to ensure Arizona’s elections remain free and fair and Arizonans choose their leaders, not the other way around.

Arizonans also defeated ballot measure 128, which would have made it easier for legislators and the courts to overrule decisions made by voters. Stand Up America’s volunteers texted more than half a million Arizona voters to warn them about this proposal.

This cycle, Stand Up America’s members, including our 15,000+ members in Arizona, wrote more than 27,000 handwritten letters educating voters on the stakes of this election, sent over 400,000 peer-to-peer texts, and submitted more than 450 letters to the editor in support of Adrian Fontes. Stand Up America’s bilingual digital ads contrasting Adrian Fontes and Mark Finchem were viewed more than 8 million times by Arizona voters.

Stand Up America’s Executive Director, Christina Harvey, issued the following statement on today’s victory: 

“Arizonans across the political spectrum came together to elect a Secretary of State who will stand up for their fundamental freedoms and the will of the people. As a veteran and former Maricopa County Recorder, Adrian Fontes has a proven track record of defending the freedom to vote and improving election transparency. He has the courage and experience to stand against election attacks and protect Arizonans’ voting rights. 

“We’re proud of the work that Stand Up America’s community did to elect democracy champions in Arizona. Our members mailed thousands of handwritten letters to voters, sent hundreds of thousands of texts, and wrote to their local newspapers to urge their friends and neighbors to elect Adrian Fontes as the next Secretary of State. 

“We look forward to working with the Secretary of State-elect to further strengthen fair and free elections and the freedom to vote in Arizona.”
