“Lofgren and Cheney have demonstrated that Congress can work together to ensure that the candidate who walks into the White House in 2025—and every election after that— is the candidate who was elected by the people.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Stand Up America’s Executive Director, Christina Harvey, issued the following statement after the House passed legislation introduced by Representatives Zoe Lofgren and Liz Cheney to reform the Electoral Count Act of 1887 (ECA).

“Every day, Americans learn more about the depth and scope of the criminal conspiracy to interfere with the certification of the 2020 election and overturn the will of voters. It’s time for Congress to take meaningful action toward protecting our democracy, and modernizing the century-old Electoral Count Act is an essential first step.

“Representatives Lofgren and Cheney have demonstrated that Congress can work together to ensure that the candidate who walks into the White House in 2025—and every election after that—is the candidate who was elected by the people. The Senate should build on this momentum by advancing updated ECA reforms out of committee and bringing them up for a vote as soon as possible.”
