“The conspiracy to sabotage our elections and undermine the will of voters is not over.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the House January 6 Committee explored how President Trump knowingly mobilized far-right extremists, including the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, in an effort to overturn the 2020 election. The hearing shed new light on the connections between former President Trump and his closest allies and far-right militants, neo-fascists, and white supremacists.
“With chilling testimony and evidence, the January 6 committee showed how—after it became clear that his illegal scheme to overturn the 2020 election was failing—President Trump took to Twitter to summon thousands of violent extremists to the nation’s capital with the express purpose of obstructing the peaceful transfer of power.
“Trump’s words were carefully chosen and his actions were premeditated. Then and today. Sadly, the conspiracy to sabotage our elections and undermine the will of voters is not over. Trump’s election-denier allies are running for office across the country in November, from state legislatures to secretary of state. To protect our elections and our freedom to vote, they must be defeated at the ballot box.”
