WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson made history as the first Black woman to be confirmed to serve on the Supreme Court.

Stand Up America’s Executive Director Christina Harvey commented on the significance of the moment:

“As Americans’ faith in the Supreme Court wanes, Judge Jackson provides a model of the type of jurist and public servant that should serve on the Court, and stands in stark contrast to the extreme, right-wing justices responsible for delegitimizing the institution. Judge Jackson’s integrity, intellect, and judicial temperament were on full display during her confirmation hearings. It’s these qualities that have elevated her to the highest court in the land in spite of Senate Republicans’ baseless attacks on her character.

“America deserves a Supreme Court that reflects the diversity of its people, administers equal justice under the law, and upholds our Constitution. Judge Jackson’s historic confirmation brings us one step closer to that goal, and she will no doubt answer the call of the American people to serve with honor.”
