Three Years After Kavanaugh’s Confirmation to SCOTUS, Congress Must Restore Balance and Integrity to Nation’s Highest Court

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today marks three years since Senate Republicans confirmed Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court, a move intended to cement right-wing partisan control of the nation’s highest court for decades to come.
Stand Up America’s Political Director Brett Edkins commented on the anniversary of Kavanaugh’s confirmation:
“Three years after Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court, it is clear that Mitch McConnell’s effort to transform the court into a team of radical, right-wing political operatives has succeeded.
“The court’s conservative supermajority has eviscerated the Voting Rights Act, given its blessing to partisan gerrymandering, and used its ‘shadow docket to threaten long-standing precedents like Roe v. Wade. Congress has no choice: they must rebalance and restore integrity to the nation’s highest court. Congressional Democrats must pass the Judiciary Act to add four seats to the court—unless they do so, the American people will continue to watch a small group of Republican political operatives drive the Supreme Court and our system of checks and balances off a cliff.”
Stand Up America’s grassroots community began mobilizing earlier this year in support of the Judiciary Act of 2021, legislation which would add four additional seats to the Supreme Court. So far this year, Stand Up America’s members have sent over 22,000 emails to their representatives in the House urging them to co-sponsor this legislation. Stand Up America’s Political Director, Brett Edkins, recently submitted testimony to The Presidential Commission of the Supreme Court of the United States in support of expanding the court and enacting other reforms to restore balance and integrity.
