After a long fight, Governor Abbott just made voter suppression the law of the land in Texas. Not only will this law have an impact on Texans trying to vote for years to come, it will surely act as a blueprint for other states that want to restrict voting rights, making it harder on all of us to access the ballot box.
This is what we mean when we say the window to protect our rights is closing. More and more states across the country are passing stringent voter suppression laws, and right now, we don’t have the federal legislation in place to put a stop to it.
