WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and several cosponsors will introduce the Protecting Our Democracy Act in the House of Representatives. The bill, one of several measures currently before Congress to protect and strengthen our democracy, aims to restore the government’s system of checks and balances, strengthen accountability and transparency, and protect America’s elections from foreign interference.

Stand Up America Founder & President Sean Eldridge commented on the bill’s introduction:

“Stand Up America’s two million-member grassroots community emerged from the outrage Americans felt as they watched Donald Trump get away with undermining our elections, profiting from the presidency, and abusing the power of the Oval Office. But this legislation is bigger than any one president or party.

“The Protecting Our Democracy Act is about ensuring that no President is above the law and that the checks and balances in our political system will endure. If Republicans refuse to support this common-sense legislation, as they have opposed other democracy legislation, then Senate Democrats must reform the filibuster to pass the Protecting Our Democracy Act. Lawmakers cannot squander the window they have right now to act and prevent future presidents of any party from abusing the power of the presidency.”
