Stand Up America Condemns Republicans In Arizona Senate for Passing PEVL Purge Bill
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Tuesday, May 11, 2021
Today, following Arizona Republicans passing a bill through the State Senate that would strip hundreds of thousands of Arizonans off of the state’s Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL), Stand Up America Political Director Brett Edkins issued the following statement:
“Passing this bill was an act of desperation by a Republican Party terrified of more people voting. While this pathetic attempt to suppress the vote in a key battleground state should immediately be rejected by the Governor, it’s clear that the Arizona GOP will stop at nothing to rewrite the rules of our elections in their favor.
“The U.S. Senate has the power to end this dangerous attack on our voting rights—and we cannot wait for action any longer. The Senate must pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the For the People Act now to stop the GOP’s shameful efforts to restrict the freedom to vote.”
Stand Up America has over fifteen thousand members in Arizona who have made 1,500 constituent calls and sent nearly ten thousand emails to their state senators opposing this bill and other recent voter suppression efforts in Arizona.
The group has worked alongside advocates and organizers from All Voting Is Local Action Arizona, LUCHA Arizona, Progress Arizona, and Our Voice, Our Vote Arizona to oppose SB 1069 and the more than 40 other voter suppression or anti-democracy bills currently being pushed by Republicans in the Arizona state legislature.
