Stand Up America Responds To McConnell Attempting To Undermine Democrats’ Agenda Using The Filibuster

Following reports that Mitch McConnell is attempting to use his “power-sharing” negotiations with Senate Majority Leader-designate Chuck Schumer to retain the legislative filibuster, Stand Up America Managing Director Christina Harvey issued the following statement:

“Mitch McConnell is desperate, grasping for straws, and attempting to use what little power he has left to stymie bold progress for the American people.

“Soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Schumer should immediately reject this blatant attempt to undermine the Democratic majority before it has even been seated and swiftly affirm that filibuster reform is still on the table.”

Last year, Stand Up America joined a coalition of progressive groups in dialing up the pressure to eliminate the filibuster. During the presidential primaries, Stand Up America also pressured Joe Biden ahead of the debates to pledge support for ending the 60-vote threshold to pass legislation in the Senate.
