Today, after House Democrats introduced the Protecting Our Democracy Act to prevent presidential abuses of power and restore our system of checks and balances, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

“For the past four years, Donald Trump has corrupted the highest levels of our government, putting his personal and political interests above the national interest. Never before have we seen this level of corruption from a president, and never again can we allow these unacceptable abuses of power to go unchecked.

“That’s why we applaud Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats for not only working tirelessly to hold Trump accountable during his time in office, but for simultaneously working to restore our system of checks and balances, ensure transparency, and prevent future abuses of power.

“While defeating Trump at the ballot box will ensure our democracy lives to fight another day, this sweeping anti-corruption bill is essential to protecting it for the long term—and it must be a top priority for the next Congress.”
