NEW YORK — After Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News today that he opposes funding the USPS to prevent Americans from voting by mail, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:
“Donald Trump is saying the quiet part out loud: His continued efforts to cripple the USPS are a clear attempt to sabotage the election and suppress the vote in the middle of a pandemic.
“Congress must act now.
“If Senate Republicans gave a damn about the future of our democracy, they would demand that the Trump administration return to the negotiating table on a COVID-19 relief bill that protects our elections and funds the Post Office.”
Earlier this week, Stand Up America launched a campaign to mobilize constituents of GOP lawmakers and drive thousands of phone calls to pressure Senate Republicans to pass a real relief package that includes election assistance and USPS funding.
