Looking to put a personal touch on your activism? Try sending a letter.
As so much of our daily lives have moved online, it’s kind of surprising to think that the biggest impact we could have on the upcoming election starts with a pen and paper.
Sending out personalized letters is a tried, tested, and effective way to get unlikely voters ready to exercise their civic duty. That’s why we partnered with VoteForward and other organizations for The Big Send, so the Stand Up America community can reach as many of these voters as possible.
Why letters? Studies have shown that writing letters to voters increases their likelihood of voting. A voter is more likely to cast their ballot if they receive a personalized message from another voter, and according to the Analyst Institute, letters are 3-4 times more effective at encouraging voters than handwritten postcards. Plus who doesn’t like getting mail just for them?
Not only is it statistically proven to make a difference, but sending a letter is easy. Most of the letter is already written for you — all you have to do is print it out and add your own personal touch. Give each person you write to an honest and encouraging message explaining why you think it’s so important to get the vote out.
It can also be a fun activity you can get your friends, family, and colleagues involved in. Have a letter writing party over video chat! Bring out the crayons and markers and get your kiddos involved! Click here to see how easy it is to get everyone involved:
November might feel like a lifetime away, but when our goal is to get 10 million letters prepped to send out to unlikely voters before Election Day, it feels like no time at all. We’ve got 2 million letters at the ready but there’s still so much more to be done. Can we count on you to pitch in?
