Fact-Check: Trump’s Baseless Claims on Mail-In Voting Are Dangerous and Hypocritical

Yesterday, Donald Trump once again spread blatant lies about voting by mail, claiming without evidence that foreign countries could manufacture mail-in ballots to rig the 2020 election.

Fact-checkers were quick to call Trump out for these outrageous claims:

And as reporters and commentators also pointed out, Trump continues to rail against a practice that he, Vice President Mike Pence, and numerous other senior administration officials have used for years:

The Washington Post: The mail-in ballots are coming from . . . inside the White House!

From Associated Press: “Vice President Mike Pence and a half-dozen other senior advisers to President Donald Trump have repeatedly voted by mail, according to election records obtained by The Associated Press. That undercuts the president’s argument that the practice will lead to widespread fraud this November.”

In response to Trump’s claims, Stand Up America spokesperson Ryan Thomas issued the following statement:

“While Donald Trump and his aides clearly have no shame lying to the public about a practice they themselves use, Americans should be disgusted by their reckless attempts to suppress the vote amid an ongoing national crisis. By trafficking in debunked conspiracy theories to undermine the election and keep Americans from casting their ballots, Donald Trump is showing the American people just how unfit he is to serve this country.”
