Statement: On Anniversary of Tax March, Groups Demand Trump’s Tax Returns

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Wednesday, April 15, 2020

NEW YORK — On the third anniversary of the Tax March, after five years of Donald Trump failing to release his tax returns since he announced his run for president, Tax March Executive Director Maura Quint and Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

“The American people are owed transparency from their elected officials, especially at the highest levels of the federal government. It is reprehensible that we still have not seen Donald Trump’s tax returns.

“From stonewalling lawful subpoenas from Congress to using a partisan Supreme Court to block criminal investigations, Trump has gone to unprecedented lengths to hide his conflicts of interest from the public and obstruct investigations into illegal activity. But no one—not even the president of the United States—is above the law.

“After Congress passed a stimulus bill with little oversight of how funds will be doled out to private industries by the Trump administration, it’s even more important now that we have full transparency about Trump’s financial entanglements and conflicts of interest.

“The American people need answers, and Trump’s silence is deafening. As we’ve said for years, if Donald Trump has nothing to hide, then today would be a great day for him to release his tax returns.”
