NEW YORK — In response to House Republicans’ effort to censure House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff over the impeachment inquiry, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

“Donald Trump broke the law and used military aid to pressure Ukraine to interfere in our elections. If any other American did this, they would be in jail.

Instead of supporting efforts to hold Donald Trump accountable for asking a foreign government to interfere in our elections, House Republicans continue treating Trump like he’s above the law. This latest effort to baselessly smear Adam Schiff for carrying out his constitutionally-mandated duties as a member of Congress should be seen as nothing more than another desperate attempt to protect Trump.

The American people have had enough of the GOP’s political games. House Republicans took an oath to defend our Constitution, and they’re failing to do just that.”

About Stand Up America

Stand Up America is a progressive advocacy organization with over two million community members across the country. Focused on grassroots advocacy to strengthen our democracy and oppose Trump’s corrupt agenda, Stand Up America has driven over 850,000 phone calls to lawmakers and mobilized tens of thousands of protestors across the country.

In May 2019, Stand Up America launched a nationwide campaign demanding that Congress begin a formal impeachment inquiry, which included driving over 160,000 constituent calls to representatives from every congressional district in the country, a volunteer-driven peer-to-peer texting program that contacted 280,000 constituents in over 70 congressional districts, and other innovative digital organizing tactics.

In August 2019, Stand Up America also joined several partner organizations in launching ‘Impeachment August,’ a grassroots campaign that helped pressure dozens of lawmakers into supporting an impeachment inquiry and eventually pressure the House Judiciary Committee to formalize its inquiry.
