NEW YORK — After Special Counsel Robert Mueller yesterday refuted Donald Trump’s claims of exoneration, clearly stating that he did not exonerate Trump, that the Department of Justice’s policy prohibited the indictment of a sitting president, and that Trump could be indicted for criminal obstruction of justice after he leaves the White House, it has become exceedingly clear that Congress must immediately begin an impeachment inquiry.

With nearly 100 House Democrats publicly indicating their support for starting an impeachment inquiry into whether Trump committed “high crimes and misdemeanors,” momentum continues to grow across the country for Speaker Pelosi to start the process.

In addition to federal lawmakers, more than a dozen of the country’s largest grassroots groups have called on Congress to begin an impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump. The coalition of groups organizing on impeachment has grown in the last week (new groups in italics), with the coalition now including:

  • By The People
  • Common Cause
  • CREDO
  • Democracy for America
  • Indivisible
  • March for Truth
  • MoveOn
  • NAACP
  • Need to Impeach
  • Revolving Door Project
  • Stand Up America

Over the last two months, Stand Up America has driven over 80,000 constituent calls to lawmakers in every congressional district in the country, with lawmakers having reported increased pressure from constituents. On the day of Mueller’s testimony, community members made nearly 10,000 constituent calls to the congressional offices of House Democrats who have not yet declared public support for an impeachment inquiry.

Stand Up America also launched a peer-to-peer text campaign several weeks ago, with volunteers texting over 240,000 voters in 53 districts. After driving hundreds of constituent calls to their offices, Reps. Ruben Gallego (AZ-07), Joe Kennedy III (MA-04), Donald Norcross (NJ-01), Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12), and Peter Welch (VT-At Large) announced their support for an impeachment inquiry.

Earlier this summer, Stand Up America also created StandUpCongress.com, a tool that enables constituents to schedule in-district office visits. Since then, hundreds of Stand Up America community members have also visited or pledged to visit lawmakers’ offices to demand they publicly support opening an impeachment inquiry based on the findings of the Mueller report.
